May to August
Today we are presenting 12 pieces of good news. Rejoice with us!
May 3. Eight and a half minutes in a TV report on TV channel 5. TV channel 5 is known in Peru as “Panamericana TV”. In the program format “24 horas” Paola Moreno presented Diospi Suyana’s vision in the channel’s midday magazine. The director of the program visited Curahuasi during the festival days. The camera was directed by Manuel Arce. The content was high praise.

The World Congress of Orthopaedic Technology took place in Leipzig from May 14 to 17. At the same time, 500 international exhibitors showcased their products at the trade fair. Christian Haupt and Daniel Müller spoke to over 800 visitors. The space rental and the construction of the Diospi Suyana stand were donated by several parties. Months later our orthopaedic workshop was still able to reap the rewards.

Diospi Suyana has 12 FM frequencies in the south of Peru. Half of the population in the states of Apurima, Cusco, Puno, Madre de Dios and Ayacucho can receive our program via our towers on the mountain tops. The most important transmitter is located above the Inca metropolis of Cusco. Around half a million people live in this metropolitan area within the range of our radio waves.
On June 18, it became official: our frequency in Cusco was extended by ten years. The tug-of-war with the authorities had dragged on for four months.

Around 150 women from the Curahuasi district took part in this three-day series of events. The audience was a colorful mix of Quechua women from the mountain villages and entrepreneurs from the small town. The message of Sra. Didier dealt with the two essential questions of life: 1. who am I and 2 What is the purpose of my existence? Using an analogy of the development of a caterpillar into a butterfly, the speaker explained that God can give us an appreciative identity. It became obvious that Marie Carmen Didier was speaking straight to the women’s hearts. There was laughter, tears and relationships were rearranged.

In 2025, the Diospi Suyana School is to be extended by two buildings, two smaller sports fields and a running track. Diospi Suyana created the basis for this by purchasing a large plot of land behind the school. These construction measures should enable the school to accommodate two classes (700 pupils).

Vascular surgeon Dr. Thomas Tielmann succeeded in reopening a blocked shunt in a dialysis patient. The patency was subsequently confirmed by angiography. It was the first vascular imaging in one of our operating theaters. Thanks to the intercession of the company Tecnasa, Diospi Suyana received the device at the factory price. This sum was then donated by private individuals.

For six months, our application to renew our license sat in the offices of the health department. On July 24, 2024, Dr. John wrote an open letter (with copies to the state’s mass media) to Governor Percy Godoy Medina. He responded immediately: On behalf of the highest decision-maker, Dr. Ronal Flores, head of the development department (above between the mission doctors John), took care of the mission hospital’s license. Although the employees in the ministries had a full program on the occasion of the national holidays, a commission of eight people – led by Dr. Ronald Flores – traveled to Curahuasi. He conveyed warm greetings from the state government. He also said that the governor deeply regretted the delay of six months. The government wants to do everything it can to support Diospi Suyana’s vision.

In the middle of our 11th year of operation, pupils, teachers and parents celebrated the 10th anniversary of our Colegio. The big event was postponed by four months to allow for better preparation of the celebrations.
Dr. Yesmi Arcelia is nothing more and nothing less than a great answer to prayer for Diospi Suyana – an incredible story. In the spring four doctors had finished their rotations at Diospi Suyana. We prayed for doctors. But where would they come from? Dr. Yesmi Arcelia had seen a television report about Diospi Suyana when she was 11 years old. This report was a strong motivation for her to study medicine. After graduating, she did additional training in healthcare at the University of Edinburgh. Finally she was looking for a job and sent an email to Diospi Suyana. Due to the usual flood of emails that reach us every day, she did not receive a reply. Yesmie was worried and quite depressed. On May 25th she put her fate in God’s hands. For three hours she prayed and sang worship songs. Suddenly she was filled with a deep peace. Five minutes later, she received a positive WhatsApp message from Dr. Martina John. Yesmi has been an integral part of our medical team since July.

On the advice of a pastor, the young doctor Dr. Pepita Gonzalen travelled to Curahuasi with her sister in 2018. Deeply moved, she saw the different departments of the hospital. After the lecture in Dr. John’s office, the missionary doctor said: “Pepita, the day will come when you will work with us as a missionary doctor!” – Pepita took these words at face value. Six years later, she works as a pediatrician with Dr. Martina John.

The young doctor from Lima (top right) visited the 2nd Youth Festival in April. On May 1, shortly before returning home, she had a brief conversation with Dr. John. In August, she contacted us by email: “I’m interested in helping out!” – The missionary doctor’s reply was short and sweet. “Come to the interview as soon as you can and bring your personal belongings with you!” The doctor did just that and got the job with a kiss.
On November 22, 2023: At the Löwenstein headquarters in Bad Ems. From left to right: Reinhard Löwenstein, Christoph Vetter and Ansgar Bilo. In the last week of July, three new anesthesia machines from Löwenstein were delivered to our warehouse. Reinhard Löwenstein, owner of the company, had reduced the price by half after a visit by Dr. Klaus John eight months earlier. And the “Gerhard and Paul-Hermann Bauder Foundation” from Stuttgart took over this shortfall. The end result was a 100% donation to the Diospi Suyana Hospital.
