September to December
The last four months of last year were nothing short of phenomenal. All areas of work excelled.

Don Santurnino received his prosthetic foot on September 9. He had traveled 1,323 kilometers from the rainforest. The orthopaedic workshop headed by Christian Haupt has provided patients from all 24 federal states with arm and leg prostheses. It is the most modern facility of its kind in the whole of Peru.

The Aumund Foundation, based in Rheinberg, is once again supporting our fields of work in Peru to the best of its ability. A combined laser for the eye clinic and a cleaning machine for surgical instruments have been ordered. The Foundation also contributes to the training costs of young Peruvian doctors at the mission hospital.

From Friday afternoon, September 20, 6 pm to Saturday afternoon, 6 pm, the Diospi Suyana Media Center held a day of prayer for Peru, in which 115 radio stations from all 24 states of Peru participated. Radio stations from Chile and El Salvador also took part. The program consisted of prayers, selected texts, Bible verses and music. The idea for this mega-event came from Doris Manco, the head of Diospi Suyana Radio/TV. Daniel Choqque was responsible for the coordination.

In the October issue, the English magazine “Good News” placed Diospi Suyana on its front page and on page 2. The headline hits the nail on the head: “Hospital of impossibility survives through prayer!”
During his two trips to England in May and November and through the media, Dr. John reached around 450,000 Britons. The radio interviews in Sheffield on Trans World Radio and in London on Premier Christian Radio had a particularly broad impact.

On October 7, Prof. Ludwig Georg Braun (left) opened the door to his daughter Anna Maria Braun, CEO of the medical technology company B. Braun. B. Braun’s contribution is important. For many years, the company has been donating urgently needed surgical instruments, infusion pumps and materials for daily hospital needs, among other things. “I’ve read your three books,” said the multi-award-winning industrialist, “they’re sitting neatly on my bookshelf!” – “B. Braun does not abandon its friends,” the chairwoman remarked as she said goodbye. “We will continue to support Diospi Suyana!”

Under the direction of the Spanish actress Marta Miranda from London, 250 children from the Diospi Suyana children’s clubs performed a musical about the life of Jesus. An unforgettable experience.

Diospi Suyana’s sixth work area will offer camps and seminars for all generations. The shell of the building has been completed. In the next few months the interior work will begin. With Tobias and Marielene Lächele we have found a capable manager couple.

In September and October 2024, Diospi Suyana won two important legal disputes with the help of the Olaechea law firm. Dr. Jose Antonio Olaechea heads the oldest law firm in Peru. The firm’s lawyers have been representing Diospi Suyana since October 22, 2009. At that time Dr. Olaechea had attended a lecture about our mission. He spontaneously decided to represent the work of our mission pro bono. Around 15 cases won speak of the high quality of their advice – and free of charge!

On November 27, 2024, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier received the winners of the Future Prize 2023 and the missionary doctors Dr. John and Olaf Böttger. Elisabeth Staudinger, member of the Management Board of Siemens Healthineers AG, and the Peruvian ambassador were also present. Dr. Stefan Biber, Dr. David Grodzki and Prof. Michael Uder handed over their full prize money to Diospi Suyana for the purchase of a new MRI scanner. A donation that was enormously increased by the Siemens Group.

The audience with the Federal President was a special honor for Diospi Suyana. Frank-Walter Steinmeier listened to a summary of Diospi Suyana’s history. On the recommendation of the Federal President’s Office, the missionary doctors John wore their Federal Crosses of Merit, which the Federal President had awarded them six years earlier.

The young people in the picture were enrolled in the first class of the lower school (Primaria) in March 2014. They have enjoyed 11 years of schooling at the Colegio Diospi Suyana.

Jesus Christ said: “I was in prison and you did not visit me!” Following Jesus’ invitation, missionaries and Peruvian staff from Diospi Suyana visited the largest prison in the state of Apurímacs. What kind of year? Together with all our friends worldwide we thank God with Psalm 34, sung by the Brooklyn Tybernacle Choir in New York.
