January to April
Over the next three days we will remind our readers of special moments in the past year. A lot has happened and Diospi Suyana has made quantum leaps forward.

At the beginning of the year, we received two new gastroscopes and two new colonoscopes with the associated equipment. Pentax Medical offered Diospi Suyana a friendship prize, of which around 60% was paid by the Paula Foundation. The equipment has long been in use and works perfectly. (Explanation: A gastroscope is used for gastroscopy, a colonoscope for colonoscopy).

Work behind the amphitheater began in January. The aim: 250 m2 of additional space for up to 1,000 more standing places.

A hot water system for our Christian meeting place: Tobias Löscher made it possible with two thermal solar systems with a total surface area of 25 m² and two hot water tanks with a capacity of 1,000 liters each. These systems with the necessary accessories reached Diospi Suyana by sea. It was a great deed by Tobias Löscher from Saxony worth 20,000 euros. He dug deep into the pockets of his own company “Ernst Irmer” and then got the companies Mainmetall and Viessmann on board.

Gynaecologist Dr. Peter Gilbert plugged a big hole in the gynaecology and obstetrics department for three months. He will return to Curahuasi with his wife Gisela in February 2025. Contact with him was made via three intermediate stations. There is a shortage of missionary doctors all over the world. Often, unfortunately, here too.

My mother’s sister Wanda was the last of the Reinsch family. Albertine Reinsch was born in 1927 in the village of Antonuvka in the north of Ukraine in a German colony. On January 29, 2024, she died in the Hessian town of Bad Schwalbach shortly before her 97th birthday. In the picture above, she can be seen as a little girl in the front row (second from the right). When my wife and I announced the dream of a modern hospital for the descendants of the Incas at the beginning of 2004, she immediately began to support this project with generous donations. After her death she bequeathed a large part of her inheritance to Diospi Suyana. These donations have long since been invested in the work of the hospital in her spirit./KDJ

As I walk through the entrance in the morning, four men approach me: “We come from the city of Ayacucho and have been on the road for 12 hours,” they say, “please build a second Diospi Suyana hospital here. We can give you a plot of land as a gift!” I shake my head. “Unfortunately, we already have our hands full here in Curahuasi!” – We can no longer count requests of this kind from other states. There were crowds of people to the left and right. These people seeking help had not received a coupon that day and were not allowed in. Maybe they had better luck in the lottery the next day.

By February 12, 2024, 550 pupils had enrolled at the Diospi Suyana School. In spring 2014, the school started with 180 children. Then it grew from year to year.

Good Friday at night. Dr. Lukas Steffen talks about the price of discipleship around the campfire. To follow Christ completely or not at all! The passion of Christ and his resurrection are the foundations of our work. To put it simply: Diospi Suyana would not be possible without the empty tomb at Easter.

It is not surprising that other clinics and private doctors repeatedly try to abuse Diospi Suyana’s good reputation for their own purposes. After six years, the owner of Clinica Hampina Wasi from the city of Andahuaylas was finally punished for his fraud. 5 lawyers from the Indecopi trademark patent office have protected the logo of our mission and imposed a heavy fine on Clinica Hampina Wasi. The final decision was made on April 16, 2024. We would like to thank the attorneys at Olaechea for their exemplary advice.

“Gozo en los Andes” was almost beyond our imagination. 4,000 young people from 20 Peruvian states and 14 countries took part in the five-day event. Half a million (!) listeners and viewers experienced the festival via streaming and our 12 radio towers in the south of Peru. 10 bands from 10 countries played. The days were filled with workshops on the topics of faith, culture, art and sport.

Countless young people dared to make a new start with God in their lives. They left their baggage behind and traveled back to their federal states liberated.
