The hustle and bustle is the same now as it was then
When we moved to Curahuasi nearly 19 years ago only adobe houses stood in our street. Some few and far between shops sold tin cans and Peruvian rolls. One could say there was not a lot happening in Jirón Simon Bolivar. But that was back then. Now our village shines in its boomtown-look. Houses are being built everywhere and at Christmas time stress reigns outside our front door. Just like in Palestine back then.
But when evening comes and things settle down, one could imagine that the Star of Bethlehem is about to illuminate the sky. But it is merely our neighbour’s yard-light.
In the busyness of the streets one hardly notices God’s presence. 2,000 years ago it was the same. And yet, he is there and fills our hearts with hope. In our world things are still going haywire – like back then – but we know that the Almighty has a keen interest in each one of us and holds us in his hands. If we want it. Do we want that? /KDJ
