We can only take with us that what we have given to others

Diospi Suyana – an alternative concept to life

The best place to live care-free is where the sun always shines and the fresh fish jumps by itself onto your plate ready to be eaten.  I recently saw the legendary film “The Treasure Island”

What a dream to live happy and content surrounded by luxury for all eternity.

His death yesterday took everyone by surprise.  Heinz Hermann Thiele, one of Lufthansa’s major shareholders, passed away.  Suddenly.  The FAZ newspaper reported that he and his family had amassed a fortune of €17 billion.  An impressive achievement.  During the course of the next few days the large newspapers will print the usual obituaries.  I expect his tombstone will be impressive.  And then that will be end of that chapter.  We cannot even take one penny with us on our last journey.  Neither Mr Thiele, you nor I.

No one expressed it in a better way than Jesus did in his parable of the rich fool (Luke 12:16-20).  The man in the story had worked hard and wanted to enjoy retirement.  That is not too much to ask for, is it?  But we must stop looking after only ourselves.  Without seeing our neighbour’s need as one of one’s life’s tasks one’s own wealth is called into question; and it does not have to be 17 billion.

The advertising slogan seen today by my wife in a shop in Wiesbaden “You are the measure of all things” is absolutely wrong:  God is the ultimate measure. /KDJ

You are the measure of all things. Put a different way: I am all that counts.
