Sometimes the police are truly your friend and helper

In Peru and everywhere

Because the road in front of our house has been torn up my wife was not able to park our car in our garage.  A thief could not resist the lure of our car and under the cover of night he took out the glass in both side mirrors, before vanishing away secretly and quietly.

My wife wanted to report the theft to the police: “We will come round later,” promised the officer, “and then we will make a report!”  Martina waited patiently, but no one came.  Perhaps the law enforcers had more important things to do.

However, our car was not the only one that had attracted the rascal’s fancy.  But still the interest of the police in this mirror-robber was limited.  In a world of murder and manslaughter, civil wars and catastrophes the officers simply cannot be concerned with such trivial matters.  Furthermore, every police-station has a flat-screen TV showing interesting films 24/7.

But now the whole thing gets an interesting twist.  Our robber also took a mirror from a car belonging to a police officer.  Now that was one step too far and the crime had to be solved without delay.  It was.  Successfully.  One found the man who was disturbing public peace with his criminal energy with a huge bag of stolen mirrors in his house.

And what is his punishment?  Probably none. “During it all I was drunk, so not compos mentis!”  the fiend asserted “and just at that point when the police stood in front of my door, I was about to start bringing them all back to where they belong!”  Well, that could be defined as remorse.  It increases inversely proportional to the distance between villain and police.

Be that as it may we are as happy as pie that our Subaru-Forester is once again adorned with its two beautiful outside-mirrors./KDJ

Both mirror glasses are back where they belong.
