Dr. Elias and Nifin Ball

The meeting in Darmstadt with Olaf Böttger (left), Chairman of Diospi Suyana, naturally had a deeper reason. His two interlocutors have firm determination written all over their faces. That is why they have also traveled from the German capital. Nifin was originally born in Damascus in a Syrian Orthodox environment. Elias is a native Berliner with a German father and a Slovak mother. Your two children could therefore – depending on the law – bring it to three passports.

After hard times in the Middle East, Nifin’s family found a new home in Germany. It was hardship and suffering that led Nifin to God. In Elias’s case, one cannot underestimate the influence of his Catholic grandmother. She persistently advised her grandson to study the books of C. S. Lewis. Many would call Oxford Professor Lewis the most important Christian apologist of the 20th century.

Next year, the internist and the social worker want to move to Peru and work at the Diospi Suyana facilities. Then they can teach their colleagues Arabic and Slovak. Long and exciting evenings around the fireplace are literally pre-programmed. Elias will then hopefully cook “Buchty na pare”. This is a specialty from his grandmother’s country with steamed dumplings and a filling of jam or chocolate. Nifin can prepare exotic Middle Eastern dishes from chickpeas, olives, tomatoes, pomegranates and dates, with optional figs.

We do not want to leave a small hint unmentioned. The two committed Christians want to serve the people of Peru and honor God. “You will not be able to save money in Peru with your salaries funded by donations,” Dr. John said over the phone. “That was in no way our intention, either,” the Kugels replied with complete composure. Such people fit wonderfully into the Diospi Suyana team. We greet Nifin with the words, “Yom said” and with Elijah we say without accent, “Dobrý deň!”
