And suddenly it became spooky

Power failure and breakdown in the electrical system

A thunderstorm rages over Curahuasi and lightning strikes somewhere. It goes pitch black in the hospital and then the lights come on again. The game is repeated a few more times. Finally it stays dark. You can hear the muffled humming of one of the generators, but the power supply is still interrupted.

Fortunately, no patient is lying on one of the six operating tables. In the emergency room, however, Dr. Benjamin Zeier has to perform an operation by the light of the cell phone lamps. The routine continues in the cleaning department. How good it is that cell phones exist. In the electrical control center, three technicians try to find a quick solution. And finally, at around 8:20 p.m., the brightly lit windows show that a certain normality has returned.

That was on Tuesday evening. Yesterday, Wednesday, the technical error was identified and the problem fixed. Incidentally, our radio transmission also came to a standstill at all 12 locations in southern Peru from midnight. In the morning, the transmission system in the media center had to be reset.

That’s life. Two generators secure our power grid. But then the circuit fails and it goes dark. Let’s thank God that nothing bad happened.
