True heroes

Do they exist?

School principal Matthias Rehder spoke about superheroes during school worship yesterday and got very personal. For him, his father is one of the greats, because when his parents’ marriage broke up, his father raised him. There certainly aren’t many directors who let others look so deeply into their hearts. I wonder if teachers might meet at least some of the criteria of a superhero? Matthias Rehder investigated this question. It will surprise no one that the school principal painted the figure of Jesus Christ before the audience as the ultimate role model. A “pious thought” in a Christian school. Of course.

Who knows that the North German used to be a convinced atheist. He passed his state examination with distinction in mathematics and chemistry. God played absolutely no role in his life. As a student at the time, he even looked down a little on people who needed a “higher power” to help them cope with their lives. But his view of the world began to crack on November 11, 2011. On that carnival evening, he was chatting with friends in a bar in Hamburg. Suddenly, a pretty young lady sat down at his table and broached a subject he would never have dreamed of. Jennifer Serec talked about God as if He really existed. The discussion continued next to the dance floor. Many rounds of discussions and extensive study of the relevant literature followed. It would be some time before the brilliant skeptic was baptized in a Christian community in southern India. That will soon be ten years ago.

Forgiveness, orientation, comfort and hope. We don’t find all that on the talk show in the evening or among the influencers on YouTube. But with Jesus Christ it is. In this respect, the description “superhero” hits the mark with him.
