Klaus and Lyndal Roque Quispe have big goals

Her life has a lot to do with Diospi Suyana

July 16, 2008 marked an important day in the history of the Diospi Suyana Hospital. Gynaecologist Dr. Jens Haßfeld performed the first caesarean section at the missionary hospital. A healthy pair of twins saw the light of day and all the staff in the delivery room breathed a sigh of relief. For mom and dad, already parents of four children, the little double pack was a real surprise. And when they were looking for a name, they called the strapping boy Klaus after the director of the hospital. Lyndal Maxwell from Australia had spotted the two of them in the ultrasound long before the birth. So what could be more obvious than naming the girl after her?

When the Colegio Diospi Suyana opened its doors in March 2014, Klaus and Lyndal sat in the same classroom. The school supported the twins’ education with two scholarships. In December, the two will leave school after graduation. What do you want to do afterwards?” I ask my guests curiously. “We want to study medicine in Cusco and maybe even work at Diospi Suyana one day!” Daphnne and I nod in agreement. That sounds like a good plan.

“What could be improved at the Diospi Suyana School?” I want to know from my interview partners. “Everything at the school is actually pretty perfect,” says Klaus without thinking twice. Well, anyone who has spent 11 long years at the school can really make an informed judgment.

A photo and best wishes for the rest of her life.

Klaus and Lyndal’s sponsors have faithfully supported the twins for eleven years. Currently, 130 pupils at our school receive financial support. 17 children face special challenges due to physical or mental weaknesses. These “inclusion children” also benefit from special financial support. We welcome all families in Peru or overseas who are willing to take responsibility for our school children.

One thing is certain, without their godparents, Klaus and Lyndal would not have had the chance to consider a career as doctors. /KDJ
