Five reasons to say Dankeschön (thank you)

What we are pleased about today

A couple of weeks ago the Swedish paediatrician Lovisa Paulson worked at the Hospital Diospi Suyana.  She came bearing gifts: 3 breast pumps – one electric, two manual.  Paediatrician Dr Martina John explains why these devices are so important:

“Children sometimes cannot be breastfed because of a lip-jaw-palate-cleft or due to general weakness.  In these cases the mothers have to pump milk and then bottle-feed their babies.  Up until now we had to specially tune 20ml syringes.  For everyone it is clear that using these syringes for this procedure was not ideal (and at times painful).  But, that is now a thing of the past!”

Midwife, Monika Schmidt and logistics employee, Karina Pereyra are proudly showing us the new pumps.  It goes without saying that we are delighted with this highly-necessary donation in kind.  But the two ladies on the photo are themselves a real blessing for the Hospital.

Monika Schmidt achieved a goal that for years seemed impossible to reach.  She received the official recognition to work as a midwife in Peru.  Several of her predecessors at the missionary hospital had failed to cross this (bureaucratic) hurdle.  Without a doubt Monika, who was born in Dillenburg, is a perfect fit for this task.  When at birth the babies see her friendly face, they know that they have made an excellent start to life.

Karina Pereyra plays an important role in our logistics department.  She manages the countless formalities that need to be taken care of when importing containers.  Furthermore, she has the overview of what products we buy when on the Peruvian market.

Hence we express our gratitude in writing to Lovisa from Sweden, Monika from Germany and Karina from Peru.
