From the construction sites

We are all in good spirits

Dear friends, when I was a child, the news and weather reports in the north were always followed by water level reports for the North and Baltic Seas. No, the rainy season here in the Andes is not that heavy – but rubber boots are necessary, at least for the Colegio construction site. The new building at the amphitheater also benefits from the dry weather during the day. At the Residencia II (hotel) and Christian Meeting Center construction sites, the finishing work is underway. Monitoring the construction sites for work processes, quality and occupational safety is currently very challenging. But now to the construction progress:

Colegio: Work on the connection between the new and existing buildings is progressing well. The path next to the sports hall has been widened, the Inca wall completed, the ramp built and the staircase will be finished in the next few days. Two rooms in Block A have been plastered and the screed has been laid for temporary storage of the new school furniture. The basic pipes and shafts for electricity and information cables as well as for the water supply have almost all been laid.

At Block A, the seating steps at the edge of the sports fields are under construction. The school playground is also slowly taking shape. It’s nice to see how things are progressing with the few construction workers. In the next few days – as soon as the steel profiles have been delivered – work will begin on the roofs.

Residencia II (guest house): The exterior rendering has changed the face of the shell of the building. The external staircase has now also been completed. A lot has also happened inside the building. The screed has been laid, the walls have been plastered and partially painted. Work has begun on laying the electrical cables and the windows are in production. Around 25 workers are still employed here and there is a lot of work behind the short report – manual work without much support from plastering machines.

Amphitheater: This construction site already has a paved surface. This makes it possible for the 25 or so men to weld the steel structures together on site 6 days a week without having to work in the mud (as in the Colegio). The large arch is already visible and the beams for the roof are also in production. The new foundations for the new supports in front of the stage have also been concreted. The assembly of the supports, the large arch and the first roof beams will be exciting. Then the new construction will be visible for the first time on site and not just on the plans.

Best regards from Curahuasi, Saludos, Christian
