Do you remember what is was like back then?

A nostalgic evening with Family Mörl

On the wall hangs a picture of the Hospital Diospi Suyana. A Peruvian rug cover a chest of drawers. Sitting at their dinner table in their cosy house they speak about old times. From 2007-2011 Michael and Elisabeth worked at the missionary hospital as an intensive carer and nutritionist respectively. Magdalena, their youngest daughter, was born high up in the Andes. Five weeks old she suffered a severe pneumonia. Back then Dr Martina John treated the girl, who now is sleeping peacefully on the couch. It is a trip down memory lane.

Their children also carry Curahuasi in their hearts. Leonore is considering spending a voluntary social year at Diospi Suyana. Her older sister, Dorothea, currently lives in Chemnitz and is planning spending three years working as a physiotherapist at Diospi Suyana.

“Are you still in contact with..?” The evening is over before it really even started. Finally we also speak about the things that move us the most. Michael muses: “Should I ever lose my faith I would only have to go to a funeral and then, standing in the cemetery I will remember how pointless a life without God is!”

Dawn has not yet come and the darkness stills rules the Oberlausitz. The Johns start their car and drive over snow-covered roads towards their next destination: Leipzig. There they will once again talk about Diospi Suyana in front of a church community. Communal experiences at the missionary station weld together for a life time.

Maximiliam and Leonore Mörl. Left Dr Martina John.
