…a good bread with a firm crust
It’s one thing to give up your usual bread on vacation and quite another to survive for decades abroad without crusty bread. For our missionaries from German-speaking countries, giving up rye, farmhouse and crusty bread is a real sacrifice. As a baker’s boy over 50 years ago, I myself secretly picked small pieces out of the ends of the bread in the bakery. Fortunately, nobody noticed these inconspicuous defects. That’s how I grew up and became strong.
Recently, Lena Zeier took pity on me and baked a crusty loaf for me. I put it on a wooden board at home and took a close look at the delicious gift. I fixed both eyes on the delicious piece. And poof, suddenly a third was gone. That’s the way to go. /KDJ
