The construction report with many pictures

We wish Udo Klemenz a safe journey home

Dear Diospi Suyana friends, compared to the previous week we had dry weather almost all the time this week. The access roads for transporting the materials had dried out, so we took advantage of the situation to stock up on building materials such as cement, sand, chippings and clay for installing the copper earthing rods.

After stripping the edge reinforcement of the floor slab, we immediately started shuttering the columns and found a good rhythm. With three column formworks, which were moved and concreted every day, all the columns were produced this week. Now the longitudinal and cross beams between the supports are being tackled.

The drainage was laid at the foot of the retaining wall, covered with a tile and encased in a coarse gravel filter layer. At the same time, the copper rods for earthing and lightning protection are installed, filled with a mixture of clay and bentonite and later slurried in.

My time here in Curahuasi has already come to an end. This Friday is a public holiday in Peru and I will start my journey home early on Saturday morning.

I have prepared the next construction phases in terms of reinforcement and formwork. All-round man Tobias Lächele, assisted by our two foremen Cristobal Pancorbo and Edgar Ocheda Cruz, will supervise the further construction work.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the maintenance department once again for their extremely good support, without which the good progress of the construction work would not have been possible. I will continue to be available via WhatsApp for construction-related questions.

Once again warm greetings from Curahuasi, Udo

The production of the supports is progressing rapidly.
The spacers for the reinforcement of the beams are made from concrete itself.
As usual, the concrete for the columns is poured by hand using buckets.
The drainage behind the retaining wall has been laid.
The copper earthing rod
The reddish clay is mixed with bentonite.
The floor formwork for the beams is provided.
Work continues at a rapid pace.
Donna and Susan (with white helmet in the background) also have a little game in store for the workers after the safety briefing.
