With an incredible result
What Johannes and Anne Lahrmann put together for Diospi Suyana on the occasion of a family celebration was quite something. But an explanatory e-mail was at least as interesting. Here it is.
“…on the occasion of our joint birthday party we decided to ask our guests to make a small donation to Diospi Suyana instead of giving presents. We are firmly convinced that Diospi Suyana is a beneficial institution that deserves support.
On Easter Sunday 2016, we were able to see the excellent hospital for ourselves. The whole family had visited our daughter Caroline, who did a voluntary social year in Lima. In addition to visiting some touristy places, it was important for us to see the areas that had suffered under the “Shining Path” terrorist organization for many years…
…So we left Cusco in a minibus. But after just a few kilometers on the journey to Abancay, my wife Anne was feeling worse and worse. Even a stay in a hostal in Limatambo around midday brought no improvement. The guide pointed out a hospital built by Germans in Curahuasi. We decided to head for this hospital. Despite the holiday, Dr. Jens Haßfeld examined and treated my wife promptly and in a friendly manner. It turned out that Dr. Haßfeld had spent his childhood not one kilometer away from our hometown in Osnabrück…
After an infusion and paying the unreasonably low bill, we were able to continue our journey to Abancay, which we had no longer believed in.
More important than the treatment of tourists with food poisoning, however, seems to us to be the work done in the hospital for the local population. You can’t appreciate that highly enough…”
