One tragedy after another

But then Dr Jens Haßfeld came onto the scene

The 30-year-old Srta Quispe C, living in Puno, will never forget the Hospital Diospi Suyana for the rest of her life.  Her own story of suffering ended a week ago in the missionary hospital.

1st stroke of fate: in November 2019 the Indian, who so longed for a child, had a miscarriage.  The doctors found the reason for the spontaneous abortion: a large myoma (benign tumour) in the womb.

2nd stroke of fate: working in the financial department of a company Srta Quispe’s health insurance was provided by the state agency ESSALUD.  The operation that was due to be performed in March 2020 was cancelled due to the Corona Pandemic.

3rd stroke of fate: like millions of other Peruvians our patient also lost her job.  Suddenly her monthly salary no longer hit her bank account and due to her redundancy she fell out of the insurance system just like that.  Life is hard, especially in Latin America.

4th stroke of fate: a private clinic was prepared to operate on her, for which she would have had to pay 5,000 Soles in cash.  To make matters worse, she was told that they would probably remove her uterus.  Srta Quispe could then reduce her life circumstances to the following formula: no job, no health insurance, no money and no more children.

In her desperation she travelled to Curahuasi and told Dr Haßfeld her plight.  It was the right decision.  The missionary doctor removed a tumour weighing 6.7kg, but did not have to remove the uterus.  The bill for the operation (blood included) was a third of the price offered in Puno.

Should our patient conceive again we would understand it, if she called her son Jens!
