The solution to the lines of patients outside our door…

…if there were more volunteers from all over the world

637,705! That’s how many patients had been examined or treated at Hospital Diospi Suyana as of July 31. This number says something about the inner workings of our hospital. It would also be interesting to have data on the people who wait in vain outside the main entrance. Some never make it past the threshold. We’ve tried a wide variety of methods. Over the years, the best approach has proven to be distributing admission tickets by lottery. However, emergency patients are always granted access.

Every volunteer who commits to serving for at least three years makes a difference. Doctors, nurses, lab staff, and others help reduce the waiting lines. Diospi Suyana’s excellent reputation throughout the country attracts people seeking help from all over. The affordable prices are particularly appealing to the poor. And the morning worship service, if nothing else, makes it clear to everyone that our facility is not about maximizing profits. Have you ever thought about spending a few years of your life at a mission hospital? You’ll lose a lot of money, but you’ll find incredible fulfillment. /KDJ (Photo: Gabriel Maurer / Video: Dr. Benjamin Zeier)
