One option is to make plans

Perhaps, perhaps not

In three days my presentation tour of Brazil should start.  20 talks and interviews have been arranged and as usual it is a tight schedule.  But can these plans truly be realised?  Perhaps a positive corona-test will scupper everything.

The old German saying is true: “God-willing and we are still alive!”

Who knows what tomorrow will bring: a too high PSA-value, a suspicious mammography, a car accident out of the blue?  Suddenly all our perfectly imagined and planned future plans are a pure waste.

Recently a lawyer told me: “The older I get the more I notice how fragile my life is.  For me these latent dangers that accompany me at every turn were the reason that I asked after God!”

If we do not want to live under the blessing of the Almighty, we only have Damocles’ Sword of catastrophic news hanging over us.  Sooner or later a doctor will say with professional sympathy: “I am sorry to tell you, but…!”

Every Monday 5-10 people meet for prayer in the hospital church.  “God please…, God we thank you…, God we trust you…!”  The experiences at Diospi Suyana show that our devotion to God is no cheap comfort.  We do not know what He has planned for us, but we know that he cares for us, He will carry us through and He will never leave us.  And that is why we say without a hint of pessimism or fatalism: “God-willing and we are still alive!”
