A bureaucratic hurdle race in a maze

Caused by a civil servant’s blatantly wrong decision

“Diospi Suyana Radio TV’s“ application for a non-profit status was rejected by an official in Cusco’s tax office, because, as we are a religious organisation, we are only allowed to broadcast religious programmes, not any to do with health, culture or family matters.  It does not take much to see that such a decision as just plain stupid.  The Ministry of Justice is currently working on a legal opinion favouring Diospi Suyana.

Time is working against us since for a couple of weeks now we have been trying to import equipment from the USA.  Should we be granted a non-profit status, we would not have to pay import duties.

Hence Dr John’s week was spent in the following way: one afternoon in the Ministry of Justice with a lawyer, a long conversation with an ambassador, a talk in the Government Palace, a presentation in front of Members of Congress, an exploratory meeting with an industrial specialist and a high-ranking meeting in the Ministry for Communications.

Being faced with such hurdles it is very tempting to throw in the towel.  He who perseveres gains a lot of life experience and many grey hairs.
