She will probably be allowed to go home again today
The Quechua woman has had to overcome a lot in her life. She has raised seven children. And as well as growing potatoes and maize, she also looked after the family’s livestock. Her home village is Antilla, a two-and-a-half hour drive from Curahuasi.
In the last few weeks, she developed severe abdominal pain in her right abdomen. Her ambulance was a simple car that took Ambrosia more or less over long gravel roads to the Diospi Suyana Hospital. After a thorough diagnosis, the case was clear: she was suffering from a “necrotic” (dead) appendix.
Our Dutch general surgeon Dr. Hilbert de Vries removed the dead tissue laparoscopically in the operating room.
If the laboratory results give the “green light”, the 72-year-old will be able to return to her mountain village today.
