Nobody knows this better than Don Eusebio
Don Eusebio is 67 years old and very sprightly. He earns his family’s living from farming.
Last Saturday he wanted to get a horse ready for field work. However, the Ackergaul insisted on his free weekend and took off. Unfortunately, the horse trick got caught on Eusebio’s leg and he fell to the ground. With severe pain and a strange feeling of instability, the family members put him in the trunk of a cab and took him to the Diospi Suyana Hospital.
The suspected diagnosis of a lower femur fracture was confirmed. The relatives asked whether an operation would be possible on the same day. In Peru, private and state hospitals usually have to order the implants first. As a result, operations are often postponed by two to three weeks.
But the family had already had personal experience with the mission hospital.
Review. In February 2020, Don Eusebio was taken to the hospital’s emergency room with severe abdominal pain. One of his cows had previously kicked him in the stomach. The sudden pressure caused a loop of intestine to burst and generalized peritonitis quickly developed. Don Eusebio was also operated on immediately after the diagnosis was made.

Late Saturday afternoon, traumatologist Dr. Fritz Meiswinkel set to work with a team. He inserted a titanium femoral nail into the broken bone. Such treatment is normally unaffordable for most people in Peru.

Yesterday, our patient was on the road to recovery. But he is by no means relaxed and satisfied. The rainy season is just beginning and he urgently needs to plant his seed potatoes. /FM
