An update from the construction sites

Civil engineer Christian Heuchert summarizes the progress made

Dear friends, it’s hard for me to believe that three weeks have passed since the last construction report. With my three building projects (Colegio, Residencia II and “Alemania”), it’s been a very entertaining time for me. So a relaxing weekend was very welcome – see the report “Men take time out in the mountains”. In the meantime, there are more than just “harbingers” of the rainy season. Work has already had to be stopped twice. On a positive note, it is now light for longer – we are heading towards summer.

Colegio: Work on building A has been suspended for the time being in order to pour the formwork and concrete for the ceiling above the ground floor and the second flight of stairs on building B at full speed. Here, too, we want to pour the slab in one day with 29 men and one engineer (about 50m³).

Nevertheless, the work on Building A is already so far advanced that we want to pour the concrete ceiling above the upper floor in November.

We have commissioned external companies to fence the property in order to protect us from uninvited visitors. The planning for the foundations of the fence is currently being finalized in one area so that it can then be implemented.

Residencia II: The foundations have been laid and the columns on the ground floor have been concreted. Work has begun on shuttering the beams that will later support the ceiling above the ground floor. The excavation pits and the floor are currently being backfilled – the Peruvian construction process differs slightly from ours in Germany.

The construction of Residencia II is also making visible progress. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether the shell work will be completed by Christmas.

Saludos, Christian
