After 16 months of construction, the end is in sight
The workers are currently enjoying their well-deserved lunch break. All alone, I sneak back and forth across the construction site below our school. On March 12, 2025, construction work on the school expansion began at this site under the direction of Engineer Udo Klemenz. There was never much time pressure on this project. Nevertheless, the schedule indicates that we’re entering the final phase. The tiling work should be completed by the end of September. Hopefully, the windows, skylights, and light fixtures will all be installed within two months. Volunteers will soon be packing Container No. 89. Nearly half of its contents will consist of the elevator donated by GAT GmbH.
In the coming days, we plan to sign a contract with an outside company for the construction of a 200-meter-long synthetic track. Two small playing fields will also be coated with a durable polyurethane surface. Just in time for the start of the school year in March 2027, dignitaries will cut the red ribbon. — Following the massive projects of the guest house, the amphitheater expansion, and the recreation center, we as a team will then be able to celebrate the completion of what is, for now, our last construction project.
We’ll wipe the sweat from our brows and chug a glass of Coke. And what’s next on the agenda? The fifth Youth Festival at the end of April, of course. And that’s going to be a really big deal. We’ll have to really go all out. /KDJ
