Xiomara Ticona Ojeda

A young Curahuasina with a great vision

When construction work began on the mission hospital in 2005, Xiomara (center) was born. Her parents were not rich, but had a strong faith. The medical student remembers a secure childhood and wonderful community experiences in the local church.

From 2015 to 2020, she attended the upper school of the Diospi Suyana School. As she came from a rather poor background, she received a partial scholarship. Her big graduation party was supposed to take place in December 2020. But unfortunately the pandemic intervened. So there are no pictures of her class in fine clothes in a decorated ballroom.

In 2021, she traveled over 1,500 kilometers to Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and began her medical studies at the University of UDABOL. And yesterday, Monday, she sat in the doctor’s room with Dr. Martina John as part of a clinical traineeship. Her first day at the missionary hospital.

“Srta. Xiomara, you grew up in a sheltered home. Did your years abroad weaken or strengthen your faith in God?” I look at my future colleague questioningly. “The years in Santa Cruz really made my trust in God grow!” she says with conviction. “I was all alone at first and had to struggle with many difficulties. That’s why I made everything a subject of prayer. And God definitely helped me!”

“What do you want to do when you grow up?” – After passing my exams, I would like to become an oncologist. Terminal cancer patients often have no hope at all. I want to tell them that God has eternal life in store for them!”

“Well, I wish you success and God’s blessing for the future!” /KDJ
