As if we lived in a peaceful world
Bright blue sky. The mighty mountains of the Cordillera are as if powdered with icing. For a few hours, the fresh snow masks the retreat of the glaciers due to general global warming. The Diospi Suyana building complex is located in the valley. The white tent roof over the amphitheater is clearly visible. To the right of the buildings, the attentive observer will even recognize the helipad. At the back left, Udo Klemenz and his team are building a leisure center on the festival grounds. And on the right, hidden in the fog, the pupils of the Diospi Suyana School are learning for life.
From a distance, you might think that all is still well with the world here. This impression is very misleading. Peruvian society is characterized by injustice, brutal selfishness and violence. And it is precisely this inner conflict that gives Diospi Suyana its raison d’être. Hundreds of thousands from all federal states have traveled to Curahuasi so far. The best-known Peruvian TV presenter Nicolas Lúcar said a significant sentence at the beginning of September 2022: “At Diospi Suyana they have a power that has overcome human self-love!” Interesting words from the mouth of an atheist.
For Christians – regardless of their denominational affiliation – Diospi Suyana stands for a piece of heaven on earth. The volunteers, who invest several years of their lives, do not act on their own initiative. No, they are just following a man who left a grave three days after his brutal death.
