Louis Fischer is absolutely loving his time in Peru

Louis is someone whom you would call “a cool guy.” It does not matter if he is teaching at the Colegio Diospi Suyana in front of several pupils, or if he is talking about his life to a church congregation: he stays as cool as a cucumber.  Perhaps he has inherited his relaxed nature from his mother, Helene.  She works in the registry office in Hannover and understandably knows exactly what to do at important events.  Two years ago she read the book “I have seen God.”  She advised her son to read it too, which resulted in a long trip to Peru.

The 19 year-olds week is chock a block.  He teaches at the school every day.  On Friday afternoons he prepares two club hours for children and teenagers.  But that is not everything.  In the hospital’s kitchen he bakes bread regularly and helps the school-chef as an apprentice.  One cannot find even a hint of boredom!

The Hannover-born has improved his self-esteem no end in Peru and has set his sight on high goals.   He is currently thinking about pursuing a career with the Federal Foreign Office or as a teacher. Dual studies in industry is only one of the options he is thinking about.

His can recommend his experiences at Diospi Suyana in good conscience.  Louis is looking forward to the next five months he has a Curahuasi.  It is here that he is making plans and learning for life.  The born-again Christian says that his stint in the Andes has strengthened his trust in God.  His faith is perhaps the most important reason for his positive attitude.

If you talk to him, you get the impression that he has much more yet to achieve.  “Perhaps I will return to Curahuasi at some point,” he says with a beaming smile.  We would welcome that a lot.

In August 2017 eleven new gap year students will start at Diospi Suyana.  Six will work in the school, three in the hospital and two in our media centre.  The spaces for the female students have been filled ages ago, while two spaces are still vacant for the male students.  As one hears so often in life: first come, first served!
