Kindergarten children represent themselves
“YO SOY ASI” (so am I) is a project for the boys and girls in the Diospi Suyana kindergarten. The three-five year olds have the opportunity to describe themselves through images and pictures. Teacher Juliana Rolli commented: “Through this workshop we will try to help develop the children’s self-esteem as a person. In the long term they need to be able to make their own decisions and overcome difficulties. We hope that they see themselves as unique individuals created in God’s image. And of course they have the freedom to show their feelings and are respected as they are. The children must know that they belong as full members of the family or the school community!”
The sounds like it should be fairly obvious for these children. But unfortunately, many Quechua children in Curahuasi are totally insecure and anxious. They need comfort and love. Within their families there is often very little support or positive structure.
