God decides over life and death
Good advice is expensive, says a German proverb. The patient in the intensive care bed is in mortal danger. She is fighting blood poisoning (sepsis) due to an ulcerated kidney (pyelonephritis). Her blood clotting is severely impaired. A machine takes over her ventilation. And the parameters on the monitor show: The diabetic is in shock. Could an emergency operation still help her? The answer: the survival of an operation would be doubtful. Could the antibiotics turn the tide? Only God knows.
So the doctors and nursing staff do everything they can. Equipment, medication, oxygen – everything is available, but God has the last word. /KDJ
