The search for the best plot
Presumably Cusco has more than just seven outlying hills, but no matter how many there are, we get to know the geography around the Inca capital. In January, Diospi Suyana acquired an FM frequency for the metropolitan area of Cusco with its approximately 500,000 people. Surely, we have already surveyed, measured and analyzed ten plots of land. A hard bread.
Monday at 1:15 pm. Doris Manco, the director of our media center, is on the phone in my office with Sr. M. in Cusco. Five minutes earlier, a new opportunity opened up. “We’re leaving at 2 p.m.,” Doris calls into the receiver, “see you on the mountain in the late afternoon!”
The traffic on the overland road to Cusco is annoying. We are losing more and more time. Upon entering Cusco, a religious procession blocks our way. The GPS data lead us crisscross through the upper outskirts of the big city. Past ancient Inca ruins and tourist stalls.
At dusk, we stand in the icy cold on the grounds above the airport. “Not a bad option,” I think and inquire about the price. The answer makes my heart even colder. That’s not going to work.
Half an hour later we are sitting together in a cafe and I unpack my laptop. I hope that the vision of Diospi Suyana with its many miracles of God will meet with sympathy. “Dr. John, in my life I’ve heard an incredible number of stories,” says one of the two daughters, “but never anything like Diospi Suyana!”
We join hands and walk through the door into the darkness. If things go well we will be in Curahuasi shortly after 10 pm. And maybe in a few days we will meet again with this family. Only God knows. Chris Welch in Australia now has to determine how many potential listeners live in the catchment area. And the possible seller will think about the purchase price. Many unknowns. But we hope that by Christmas 2022 an antenna tower will be beaming our program into the metropolis. And this is the best news for the world. /KDJ
