We don’t know anyone who doesn’t like them
Yesterday, Saturday, our pharmacist Leonie Hilliges was bid farewell at the children’s clubhouse. Many came to say goodbye to her. In the next few days, she will pack her bags and leave Peru after four and a half years. Her family in Germany can be happy, but there will be tears in Curahuasi.
Leonie Hilliges is a wonderful woman who gave us faith in the good in bleak times. It is difficult to put into words who she is and what she is like. You could say she is completely out of her element. Where people think of themselves above all else, she falls out of line. Selfishness is not her thing.
She became a true friend to countless Peruvians, which explains the crowds at her farewell. How can a person be so good? Does her faith in Jesus Christ play a role in this? Anyone who has watched her since 2019 – as we have – cannot shake off the suspicion that the man from Nazareth has totally rubbed off on her. “Leonie, we would love to close the overland road to Cusco so that you don’t leave us. But may God accompany you wherever you go!” /KDJ
