It was a shock in every respect
The young people had barely left when an earthquake struck Curahuasi. The epicenter was only 15 km away from the hospital in our district. On the Richter scale, the quake reached 4.6 on May 1 at 9:16 pm.
In a figurative sense, the “Gozo en los Andes” festival has also triggered a quake that is likely to reach much further than the tremors last night. On five evenings, we broadcast the church services, testimonies and concerts live via 12 radio towers in southern Peru from 7pm. Young people, music bands from ten Latin American countries and pastors from various churches left Curahuasi with gratitude and amazement.
“The pastors in Lima need to hear this story,” said the head of the organization “Casa de la Biblia” and invited Diospi Suyana to a conference in the capital. “Please present your work to my congregation,” said Pastor Ramos from Lima.
According to the participants, countless young people in Curahuasi have shed a lot of emotional baggage. Hundreds prayed with pastors and missionaries. They received Christian literature and advice for a life under God’s guidance. The guests at the festival came from 20 states and 14 countries around the world. They traveled back to their cities and countries with the message that God can give us joy, peace, forgiveness and hope if we trust him. The cross of Christ and the empty tomb at Easter were at the center of all the contributions.
Two secular national TV teams were on site and will broadcast their reports in the next few days. Yes, two earthquakes have actually occurred in Curauasi. And we thank God for this with all our hearts. /KDJ
