The rainy season has started

But the Media Centre still has no roof

Dear Diospi Friends, this year the rainy season has started surprisingly early.  Almost every evening or night we experience heavy rain-showers, at times even with thunder and lightning.  The picture shows clearly what state our building site often is in when we arrive for work in the morning.  It is high time that we start rebuilding the roof construction.  The necessary grillage has now been welded together.

Oebele de Haan’s construction hoist, which has done us many great services in the past, has been extended by three metres and has been successfully erected.  Putting the construction hoist in place and ensuring that it works was an exciting event, as the below pictures show.

Today the plastering work team has started work on the final section of the outer facade before they will move onto the inner walls.  In the meantime the next two main supporting beams have been stripped of their formwork.

On Tuesday it was all men on deck: everyone who was available (including three gardeners) helped concreting the foundation slab.  20m³ of concrete were mixed together and by wheeled 30m on four wheelbarrows to their final resting place.  At 5p.m. sharp we had completed the hard work.  This is all the up-to-date news from Curahuasi.

Cordial greetings, Udo.
