Auspicious writing on the wall

“I am with you”

Normally we do not write sayings on the walls of the Hospital Diospi Suyana.  But the above wooden cladding is only there for as long as the Pandemic lasts.  45 beds on the second floor are reserved solely for Covid-patients.  That whole section of the hospital is hermetically sealed off.  Some members of staff have written encouraging Bible passages – words of comfort from the Psalms on from the Prophets – on the brown background.

2,700 years ago the Prophet Isaiah wrote: “Do not be afraid, I am with you, have no fear, for I am your God!  I will make you strong, I am your helper and will protect you with my victorious hand!”

These verses are for both the patients who will overcome their illness, as well as for those whose last stretch of their life journey here on earth has started. What do you think; are we just grasping at a straw or was Jesus right when he said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away” (Matthew, 24:35)?  At the end of the day our faith in God a pure matter of trust. /KDJ
