This is exactly why Don Edwin is in the Diospi Suyana Hospital
Diabetes is an unpleasant disease. The blood circulation in the legs suffers. The kidneys, eyes and heart are often affected sooner or later. Don Edwin from Cusco knows all this from his own experience. The Quechua earns his living as a driver, but driving is currently out of the question. A serious infection in his right foot with two resistant germs (bacteria) requires radical antibiotic therapy and daily wound care. The little toe with the corresponding metatarsal bone had to be removed. Whether an amputation of the foot can be prevented remains highly uncertain.
The 50-year-old lives in the south of Cusco. “Why did you travel all the way to the Diospi Suyana Hospital when there are hospitals and clinics of all sizes in Cusco?” Don Edwin doesn’t have to think long about my question. “I have been coming to the missionary hospital for ten years because the treatment here is simply better. /KDJ
