Sipas Wayta

How can one make history exciting and interesting?

The social sciences team of the Diospi-Suyana-School had a great idea: Why don’t we motivate our secondary school pupils to extend their history knowledge by organising a quiz show for them? The teachers Rosa Luz Ramos Flores, Jorge Calua Herrera, Elisabeth Cuchillo and Jonathan Rosenkranz initiated the first round with 130 questions for which the pupils were given time to prepare for. The team of teachers professionally prepared and put on a knowledge quiz-show called “Sipas Wayta” (delicate flower).

This Friday pupils from grades 7 and 9 are meeting in the final. But this time the scope of the material will present more of a challenge: global topics (e.g. The Middle Ages or The Second World War) will sort the wheat from the chaff. The prize for the winners is a cultural day outing to Cusco.

We hope that this event will awaken the pupils’ interest in world history and perhaps it will cause more pupils to read the history books that are waiting in the school library for avid readers. /CB
