Traumatologist Dr. Fritz Meiswinkel stabilized the fracture
On Friday afternoon an injured person was admitted to the Diospi Suyana Hospital. He was a man in his mid-thirties from the state of Ayacucho. Occasionally, the man in question finds lucrative odd jobs in illegal mining. This was also the case last week. The earnings are not bad at all, but the risks are high. On Friday, a large rock fell out of the tunnel ceiling onto his back. The impact caused the 2nd lumbar vertebra to break. Compression occurred in the front area. At the back, the vertebral arch tore apart up to the posterior edge of the vertebral body. One can only imagine the pain the patient had to endure during the transport over bumpy gravel roads to Curahuasi.
After the diagnosis was made (CT and X-ray), the spine was fixed in the fracture area with metal implants. Traumatologist Dr. Fritz Meiswinkel and Dr. Thomas Tielmann went about their work with the utmost care. Anesthetist Dr. Natascha Lopata administered the anesthesia. The risk of paraplegia has been effectively countered by the speedy operation. The patient was doing well under the circumstances on Sunday evening. We would like to congratulate the entire surgical team on this successful procedure. /KDJ
