Peru: the first 300,000 vaccination doses coming from China should arrive today

Corona-protective-clothing is drying in the sun

The alpaca (on the left) has had enough of Corona and bad news.  Purposefully it turns its head away from photographer Marion Hofmann.  And we at times can also no longer bear hearing the tragic numbers.  Currently, almost 2,000 patients in Peru are on respirators.  The country is now in the middle of its second lockdown.  A real challenge for people who live their lives as day-labourers from hand to mouth.  According to one report in the New York Times the excess mortality in 2020 was around 0.1mio cases.

From tomorrow onwards (i.e. Monday) medical staff should start being vaccinated with a vaccine coming from China.  We expect the virus to continue dominating Peru for the whole of 2021.  And then?  The Cyprian Plague lasted 21 years (from 250-271 AD).  Whatever happens the vaccination programmes have to have a quicker effect than the virus mutates.

The above chart shows that the second wave hit Peru in January.
