When he was admitted to the emergency room, he was cold and without life. After a long resuscitation, the heartbeat resumed. But a few hours later in the intensive care unit, the inevitable happened: The team lost the battle against death.

In his book “Expedition zum Ursprung” (Fontis Verlag) the physicist Albrecht Kellner writes on page 196: “…On the other side of the spectrum there are those who, like the biochemist, molecular biologist and Nobel laureate Jacques Monod, state that man as a product of chance without a God or deeper source is alone in the impassive immensity of the universe. “Not only his lot, but also his duty is not written anywhere. He knows now that he has his place like a gypsy on the edge of the universe, which is deaf to his music and indifferent to his hopes, sufferings or crimes.”

In the middle of this spectrum, so to speak, is that part of humanity which, in the face of the seemingly insoluble mysteriousness of existence and the hardships of daily life, has largely dismissed the question of whether there is a meaning, a God, a primordial cause, or just blind chance, as unanswerable and irrelevant to concrete life.
