And takes a surprising decision
The poet Robert Reinick’s (1805-1852) words sum up the situation beautifully: “On the night before Christmas all the children are dreaming about the wonderful things that are waiting for them under the Christmas tree!” Children love presents; Lena Hoffmann from Böblingen also loves them. But for the ten year old Christmas 2016 is different: she did not want any presents, instead she sent a big parcel to the Colegio Diospi Suyana.
I quote from a letter that her mother recently wrote: “Our son heard Klaus Dieter John speak at a Whitsun Youth Camp in Aidlingen. He was seriously impressed. A short time later he received ‘a book’ for his birthday and was so enthusiastic that we read it as a family and bought a second one. The stories touched and encouraged us. A short while later I decided to visit the website and discovered “by chance” that in a couple of days Klaus was going to give a presentation near to our home. After our family was there we have kept Peru in our thoughts and prayers. Our two youngest children, one of them is Lena, want to learn Spanish to be able to help in Peru in the future.
Lena, who is in fifth grade, included a letter in the parcel: I have more than I need here in Germany. One day I would like to work as a nurse in Diospi Suyana.
Our generous sponsor still has eight more years of school ahead of her, followed perhaps by one voluntary social year and then three years of nurse training: Diospi Suyana officially invites Lena Hoffmann for an interview in Darmstadt at noon on 3rd January 2029.
