Three shocks which make you pull your hair out

Caution is the mother of wisdom

Dr Trujillo knows what he was talking about when he made an interesting statement about Peruvian dentists in a recent TV interview: 6,000 Peruvians earn their money as dentists even though they do not have an official qualification.  Quacks seem also to exist in the field of dental care.  If I remember correctly a few centuries ago smiths used to extract teeth in Europe.

The former president of the Peruvian Pharmaceutical Organisation “Adifan” surprised everyone during his visit to the missionary Hospital Diospi Suyana when he stated that 30% of all medication on the Peruvian market contains absolutely no active ingredients.  Thus the buyer pays for the packaging and the sugar pills.  The sentence “high costs, but all in vain” comes to mind.

Severe traffic accidents are a daily occurrence in Peru.  On Tuesday morning I boarded a minibus in Curahuasi.  But then, following an inner urging, I get out again and walk 360° around the bus in order to inspect the wheels.  The back right wheel is a smooth as a baby’s bottom while the back left wheel’s inner casing is clearly visible.  The daily drama in Peru: worn tyres, broken brakes, drunk drivers, overtiredness at the wheel: they all explain the catastrophic tragedies up and down the country. /KDJ

The tyre’s profile has definitely seen better days.  Now the inner casing can get a glimpse of the world outside.
