Diospi Suyana Hospital treats around 4,000 patients in April

Despite a mega festival

You could almost think that all the departments were only working for the “Vida en los Andes” festival. But far from it. In the current month of April, our doctors and nurses are treating around 4,000 patients. One of them is Donna Mauricia (see picture above). The 75-year-old Quechua woman was brought to the mission hospital by her daughter from the southern town of Sicuani. She was suffering from a ruptured appendix and had already formed a pus pocket (abscess) in her right lower rectum. Surgeon Dr. Lukas Steffen immediately took action.

Three days later, the lady felt so well that she wanted to go home. The hibiscus flowers on her hat most probably came from the hospital garden. However, we will generously refrain from pressing charges.

In any case, we wish her a speedy recovery and are delighted that the operation was so successful.
