World Blood Donor Day is set for June 14. But the day before, our hard-working laboratory staff had already drawn blood from voluntary donors. The stand at the “Plaza de Armas” once again demonstrated Diospi Suyana’s presence in Peruvian society. Under the watchful eye of deputy hospital director Dr. Thomas Tielmann, our team excelled.
In the Andes, many people have deep reservations about donating blood. “We’re getting weak and sick!” say the skeptics. Others are not eligible as donors due to pre-existing conditions. Hepatitis B in particular is widespread in the province of Abancay.
The yield of 7 cans was not bad and we thank our colleagues for their great efforts.
