When seconds change a life radically
A Case Presentation: As the sports competitions raged at the Diospi company outing, surgeon Annette Haar was called to an emergency at the hospital. On the stretcher lay a drunken motorcyclist who had collided with a car a few minutes before. During the fall, the handlebars rammed into his stomach, bursting open the abdominal wall leaving the intestines hanging out. Furthermore, the patient had suffered a large head wound from impact with the hard pavement. Unfortunately, the young man had been driving without wearing a helmet. Our surgeon operated on both wounds promptly in the operating room.
The radiograph of the cervical spine showed a fracture of the second cervical vertebra. Conservative treatment was performed with a rigid neck brace for three months on the recommendation of a neurosurgeon. The motorcyclist escaped with his life and without paralysis.
Edison laughs again. He is aware that God has saved him from the worst. On his bedside in the hospital is a Bible and a copy of the book “Dios es visible,” in which the story is told of Diospi Suyana.
