And their fate
Ruth is a mother of seven. During her last pregnancy three years ago, massive bleeding occurred after an emergency caesarean section. Colleagues at the hospital had to remove the uterus. The left ureter was injured in the process. A fistula formed between the ureter and the vagina. Result: The woman had to wear diapers.

The ureter was reimplanted at a hospital in Lima. The family paid 20,000 soles (5,000 euros) for this procedure. As usual, an internal splinting with a catheter was supposed to prevent a narrowing (stenosis).
The day finally came when the catheter (see left photo) was to be removed.
But Ruth did not feel well afterwards. She was plagued by the feeling of having a foreign body in her bladder. And she was constantly suffering from inflammation with pain and fever.
A few days ago, missionary doctor Dr. Benjamin Zeier took care of this protracted case. During a cystoscopy, he discovered that the catheter had not been removed in Lima. (He removed the corpus delicti with the help of a new cystoscope donated by the Lions Club in Mosbach. Conclusion: problem solved.
