The best dessert in Peru is, without any doubt, the cake, “Tres leches” (three milks).
Elisabeth Mörl knows how to make the best. As her recipe is top secret we offer you the following alternative:
300 g flour; 2 tsp baking powder
250 g sugar; 1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
125 g butter, 6 eggs
250 ml sweetened condensed milk
250 ml evaporated milk
250 ml whole milk, 500 ml whipped cream
1/2 tsp vanilla extract, 1 Tbsp sugar
Heat oven to 350 degrees.
Mix the butter with the sugar, salt and vanilla. Mix in the eggs. Next add the flour and baking powder. Put the batter into a baking dish and bake for approximately 30 minutes. Let cake cool.
Whisk sweetened condensed milk, coffee cream and milk together. Put the mixture on the top of the cake. Cover and let cool for at least three hours.
Whisk heavy whipped cream with vanilla extract and sugar until stiff peaks appear. Add this to the top of the cake. Serve with fruit or cinnamon sprinkled on the top.
