Three construction projects and soon there will be four

Civil engineer Christian Heuchert keeps an overview

Dear friends, in the last two weeks, the construction work has been very varied and challenging and multitasking has been required. It has also been a challenge to complete the major construction work and not neglect the maintenance work on the hospital, colegio and children’s house. You can therefore look forward to a longer construction report today.

Colegio: Work on the Colegio is progressing well. However, it remains to be seen whether we will manage to concrete all four floors by the rainy season – whenever that starts. The first floor will be concreted in August. At the moment, several tons of reinforcing steel are being installed by hand in the ceiling formwork in order to make the planned reinforced concrete construction load-bearing and earthquake-proof. The staircase on Building A is also growing and has been concreted up to the intermediate landing.

Half of the columns on Building B have now been concreted and the bricklaying work has begun. At the same time, the empty conduits and the inlet boxes for the sockets are also being installed. The slots required for the empty conduits are cut into the bricks during the masonry work. This simplifies the work and is quicker than having to chisel them out later with a hammer drill.

Residencia II: On August 18, the construction company from Abancay started building Residencia II. In the meantime, the excavation pit has been dug and the main axes for the building have been measured. Our men and women from construction and maintenance are only marginally involved in this building project. But we are keeping an eye on ensuring that our “Diospi Suyana standards” are adhered to and that we will have few problems with maintenance later on. Therefore, special care must be taken when laying the foundations, which is time-consuming but important.

Just in time for the start of construction, the solar system was dismantled from the construction site and set up elsewhere. We are grateful that no major damage occurred. Work was interrupted during the inauguration ceremony for the MRT. Nevertheless, thanks to our resourceful workers, the hospital and Residencia I always had hot water. For this effort, the maintenance men were supported by some construction workers from the Colegio. The result is impressive.

Christian meeting place: As beautiful as the view of the Andes from the balconies is – there are still many tasks to be completed in the extension. The so-called “small stuff”, which in total still means many weeks of work. In the kitchen, the coordination with the appliance supplier can begin – but in the bedrooms, the sanitary porcelain, lamps and furniture are still missing. Work is currently underway on the flooring in the main hall. This requires a lot of preparation before the parquet can actually be laid.

You are welcome to pray for our technical department for the safety of our employees during the upcoming work and for wise time management. (Picture above: The ceiling above the first floor is being prepared for concreting).

Saludos, Christian

Building B is also continuing to grow. A construction crew of 15 men and women is working on it.
A large excavator and truck are used to excavate the slope for the foundation of the new Residencia. The excavator shovel was so big that two people could have made themselves comfortable.
After three days, the slope was removed and the axes (white) were measured. See picture below.

The construction plans are critically scrutinized.

The relocated solar thermal system for water heating – a neat job!
Not all solar panels fit on the roof. The construction fence for the new building in the background.
How beautiful will the view from the meeting place be after the rainy season?
The kitchen appliances can come.
