On schedule without time pressure

The expansion of the Diospi-Suyana School

The Cardenas company is making great progress on the concrete work for the playing fields. The slab is 20 cm thick and reinforced with steel mesh. On Monday, a second crew will begin pouring concrete for the running track (200 m long).

Also at the start of the week, a company from Arequipa is set to begin construction of the elaborate tent roof for the playing fields. The first step will be laying the foundations for the steel posts supporting the roof. Meanwhile, the glazier will install the window frames and fit the glass panes. In two weeks, an outside contractor from Curahuasi will install the railings.

The doors are manufactured in Lima and could be installed starting in the first week of December. With the track coating to be applied in December, the biggest tasks would be completed by the end of the year.

Sometime in November, technicians from Arequipa will come to install the school’s elevator. But first, the container ship must reach the safe harbor of Lima, and all the cargo must clear customs.

In the first week of March, the students return from their long summer break (in the Southern Hemisphere). So if there are any delays in the schedule, it wouldn’t be a big deal at all. It’s a whole new way of life, because normally here at Diospi Suyana we’re always racing against the clock. /KDJ

This is where the steel mesh for the concrete squares is made.
Povis, an engineer from Solcar, inspected the site this week. The 200-meter track will certainly keep the students on their toes during physical education class. On the right, you can see the window frames with glass panes in one of the two new school buildings.
The model. However, for various reasons, the structure is rotated 90 degrees.
