Many patients are waiting for their examinations in the waiting room

But Gabriela Quispe has a completely different motive

Status: February 8, 2024

People come from all over the country hoping to receive treatment at the Diospi Suyana Hospital. The waiting room is packed again this morning. You could say it’s really buzzing. Gabriela Quispe is among the many people seeking help. She entered the hospital to make a personal donation for the Diospi Suyana Media Center. She enjoys our radio program day after day. And on this Monday, she wants to express her gratitude in a special way.

A look at the table on the left shows that most patients come from the states of Apurimac, Cusco, Puno, Madre de Dios and Ayacucho. In addition, a large number of patients travel from the two largest cities in Peru, namely Lima and Arequipa. The 12 radio towers of our media center are also located in the south. The synergistic effects between hospital and radio are obvious.

Since the opening of the Diospi Suyana Hospital in 2007, a coupon (admission ticket) costs 4 soles (1 euro). We know of no missionary hospital in South America or Africa that offers the initial examination at a lower price than Diospi Suyana. Patients only pay around a third of the total costs incurred at the hospital.

Three factors make these dumping prices for the poor possible. 1. our volunteers from abroad finance themselves through private donors. 2. a large circle of supporters, currently numbering 1204, donates to Diospi Suyana on a regular basis. 3. companies from Germany, Peru and several other countries help with generous donations in kind.
