Breaking news: the 400,000th patient is treated at Diospi Suyana

Sra. Yolanda Roman Cruz has never received such a big hamper

Around 11:30 a.m. (Peruvian Time) the missionary hospital’s computer system identified Sra. Yolanda Roman Cruz as our 400,000th patient.  The 30 year-old (wearing a blue jacket) came for a check-up for her fractured shin.  Yolanda and her husband Nicanor live in humble circumstances and earn their living working as day-labourers on farms.  They speak Quechua, the language of the ancient Incas, at home.  The generous hamper was an unexpected and welcome support for the couple and their three children.

Dr Jens Haßfeld giving the ceremonial address.  To his right are vascular surgeon Dr Thomas Tielmann and Jenny Frank who works in the administation team.
The hospital staff had wait several hours for this computer message. Yolanda Roman Cruz and her husband Nicanor were suddenly thrust into the centre of attention.
